New Review

Hey guys, im a new blogger for FMTW

gonna review some sauces i bought.  now, im not a strong man, i can’t sit still after eating a habanero or anything that manly. i’m you’re average joe that loves hot food, i like heat but i like flavor more and i want to let you in on my experiences.

so, here we go. first up for the hot sauces we have one off the extreme end.
Jolokia 10 – Delicious, hot and unqiue this is a useable super sauce. it contains 4 of the hottest peppers in the world but the sauce is deep, very savory and the flavors of all 4 of the chilies really combine to make something extremely unique. I would use this in everything, and i have. i’ve put it on eggs and toast, in cheese dip. on pizza and its fabulous, great deep flavor with perfectly good heat, very chunky sauce which i’m starting to like because its forgiving. if the heat is too much for you, just swallow. it will keep the heat down to a level i’d say between 7-9. if you really want to push the envolope then chew to your hearts content. let all the oils from the chunks of the 4 hottest peppers on earth come through and they will have no mercy. This is one hot sauce i’d be very careful to put into any heated food (like sauces) as the oils come out of the peppers.
The burn kicks up quickly due to the red savina habanero and the jolokia holds it for some time. Perfect for your chilihead friend. the burn can be managed from a good hab burn to….. a 12 gauge to the face.
Heats up to you really, which i love the most.
8.5/10 – Flavor
10/10 – Heat

November Newsletter

Sorry for the delay in getting this posted, it was hectic with the King of the Wing going on (and everything else).  This went out via email to our subscribers earlier this month, and here it is for our casual readers to peruse.  If you want to be on our regular email list, drop me a line at info@frommildtowild.com and we’ll get you added.

Greetings everyone!

It’s been an interesting month for the hot sauce shop with the excitement surrounding the King of the Wing promotion that we’ve been doing with Bubba Ray’s Sports Bar on Spring Garden Road in Halifax.  We’ve already gotten through two of the three weeks of qualifications with only this Wednesday (November 12th) remaining.  On Wednesday night our last 5 qualifiers will spin the Wheel of Pain and hope to eat their way into the top 5 places to qualify for the final on Tuesday November 18th.  If you’re in the Halifax area and want to compete or just check out the action, sign up usually wraps up around 7pm and then we get down to business.  For those of you on Facebook, you can check out the round 1 and round 2 pictures by going to our page.

It’s also that time of year again … yes, it’s getting closer and closer to Christmas already.  With that in mind, we’re bring back our seasonal special.  If you order $35 or more worth of product (not including shipping) from now until Christmas, we’re going to throw in a free bottle of our Stocking Stuffer Hot Sauce (“for the hottest person you know”).  No coupon code necessary, we’ll just add it to every qualifying order.  If you want to snag more than one bottle, you can find lots of them available on our web site.

We’ve also added a few new products to our web site.  If you’ve been keeping up on our blog then you may have seen some of these already, but just in case you haven’t checked back, here’s a quick list of a few of them:
The Blair’s Zakk Wylde collection is a hot new item that’s just been released and includes the Orginal, Sonic Brew, Stronger than Death and Shot to Hell (they get progressively hotter, with the last one being *extremely* hot).
Also recently added is the Ass Kickin’ Peanut Butter.  I’m really enjoying this blend of all natural peanut butter and habanero.  It makes an amazing peanut butter and jam sandwich when teamed up with the Fiesta Raspberry Jalapeno sauce.

If you want to see what else has been fairly recently added to the store, just check out our category that features all of our New Products, as well as a section that we’ve added that features our Best Sellers.

We hope that the season finds you well.  If you’ve got any good holiday recipes that are spicy that you’d like to share, fire us an email and we’ll post it in the blog and possibly feature it in a future monthly newsletter.

Cheers,

Brian

March Newsletter

It seems to be the time of month to keep you all up to speed with what’s going on in our little corner of the hot sauce and spicy food world. We’ve got some interesting news and a new promotion to tell you about that some of you should really like. First off, I’m going to let all the locals in on some interesting news. For those of you in the Halifax, NS area we want to let you know about a new sports bar that is opening on Spring Garden Road right across from Park Lane mall. It is called Bubba Ray’s Sports Bar and it should be open by the end of the month. We’re telling you about this because they are going to have a rather large display case of hot sauces (about 40 different products) on the wall at the bar AND they are going to have, bar none, the hottest wings in Halifax. If you don’t believe me, go there and check it out. I’ve been heard they are going to be called “Death Wings” and I think that they will give some of you a challenge. On top of that, you’ll have to! sign a waiver when you order these ones. I’m sure that in the coming months we’ll have some more news to share with you on what will be going on there.

Next, I wanted to let our faithful customers know about a new promotion that we’ve got going on from now until the end of May of this year. Some of you may know that when you’re logged into the online store that you can enter reviews on the products.  We are going to encourage this for the duration of the promotion by offering up a 3 month Hot Sauce of the Month Club membership.  For every product review that a customer of the store enters, they will have their name entered once into a draw for the membership.  In order to qualify the review has actually consist of more than “I like this sauce” or “this sauce is good.”  Also, you have to be an existing customer of the store.  So if you are a new customer and buy anything during the promo, come back and let us know what you think of it.  Those of you that have already ! been through lots of sauce, pop in and let us know what you think and how you’ve enjoyed it.

We’ve been on such a busy streak at the store getting geared up for some promotions and the oncoming BBQ season that we don’t have a recipe this month.  So I’ll fill you in on some of the interesting things that we’ve been using in our kitchen.  The Naga Jolokia peppers are still new and exciting to us, and I found that chopping one of the dried peppers and adding it to a pot of chili produced amazing results – the flavor was incredible and the heat wasn’t all that bad.  For those of you seeking a really hot pot of chili, make sure to add 3 to 4 peppers per gallon.  If you just want to add this incredible taste then adding one produces a delicious flavor in a chili that most people will be able to handle no problem.  We’re also a big fan of our slow cooker, and we’ve had several roasts (beef and pork) that we’ve done with either Bone Suckin’ Sauce or Texas Red Lemon Pepper.  Both of these have become favorites of ours since we’ve added them to the product lineup and if you haven’t checked them out yet you’re really missing something!

We’re looking forward to summer and the end of the ice and snow (and grilling a little more often).  With Spring here now it’s finally within sight.  Check back often and see what we’ve got brewing for the onset of BBQ Season.  Between the newsletters we try to post any other happenings in the blog for the store.  Feel free to pop in, check it out and add your comments.

Cheers,

Brian

From Mild to Wild February Newsletter

Greetings everyone!

I hope that things are going well for everyone.  We’ve had a rough month here with a big computer crash, so it’s slowed us down a bit but we’re working through it to keep the sauce coming.  Lots of you have been taking advantage of our “Get Sauced for Free” promotion where we have been giving away a free bottle of our great From Mild to Wild Hot Sauce with any order over $30.  This promotion is over at the end of February, so get it while it’s hot!  We’re working on something new and interesting for next month.  Keep an eye on the blog at the beginning of March to get a head start on that one.

I was experimenting in the kitchen just prior to a Superbowl party here and I modified a recipe that I had with great results – these turned out just superb.  Original they were called Nacho Pinwheels, now they are Blair’s Nacho Pinwheels of Death!  Check out the recipe and give it a shot if you dare:

Blair’s Nacho Pinwheels of Death

3 cups Original Bisquick mix
3/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
2/3 cup water
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
Blair’s Fiery Cheese Queso (to taste)
 Salsa, if desired
 Sour cream, if desired
1. Heat oven to 425°F. Grease cookie sheet with shortening or cooking spray. In large bowl, stir Bisquick mix, chili powder, oregano and water until soft dough forms. Place dough on surface sprinkled with Bisquick mix; gently roll in Bisquick mix to coat. Shape into a ball; knead 10 times.
2. Roll dough into 18×10-inch rectangle. Spread an even layer of Blair’s Fiery Cheese Queso over the rectangle (more = hotter). Roll up rectangle tightly, beginning at 18-inch side. Pinch edge into roll to seal. Cut into 18 slices. Place on cookie sheet.
3. Bake 11 to 13 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm with salsa and sour cream.

We’ve recently gotten a new supply of products in from Blair’s that’s headlined by the Naga Jolokia Peppers that I mentioned last month.  If you’re a serious heat freak, you’re going to want to check these out.  They are a great quality sample of the hottest peppers now available on the planet.  We’ve also recently added some unique products from the Marie Sharp’s line including products featuring Orange and Grapefruit mixed with Habanero.  For the fans of Marie Sharp’s Fiery Hot, we’ve got that back in stock now as well.

For those of you looking around our area for product, be sure to check out the following locations that are carrying some of our products:

Digby Convenience (formerly Oliver’s) has a cross section of products

Annapolis Natural Foods is carrying the Bone Suckin’ line of products

Jody’s Gourmet Pizza and Convenience has a private labelled sauce from us that’s fantastic, and

The End of the Line Pub in Bridgetown is using a sauce from us on their tables.  Check it out – it’s great on everything!

If you’re looking for a private label for a business or special event, drop us a line and we’ll see what we can do for you.  Until next month, make sure that you keep warm through the end of winter – we’re always here to help!

Cheers,

Brian

January Newsletter

Welcome to the New Year!  I hope that everyone is enjoying their winter so far.  Things have been busy for us at the store as we are working on our year end for last year.  Consequently, this newsletter is a little late getting out.  However, better late than never.

We’re working on stacking up some exciting new products for the 2008 year, including the famed Naga Jolokia Pepper.  As stated in the linked wikipeda article “One seed from a Naga Jolokia can sustain intense pain sensations in the mouth for up to 30 minutes before subsiding.”  Now if that doesn’t sound like fun, then I don’t know what is!  The good people at Blair’s have brought to market dried Naga Jolokias from a high quality source and we’ve got some on their way in.  Limited quantities are available, so if you’re interested in these you might want to drop me a line now to reserve yours.

We’ve also started a new promo that will interest you I’m sure.  It’s our “Get Sauced for Free!” campaign.  We’re giving away a bottle of our From Mild to Wild hot sauce with any order over $30 (before shipping and taxes).  To take advantage of this offer, make sure that you add a bottle to your cart, and then use the coupon code SAUCED (make sure that you enter it all in capital letters).  This has been a very popular sauce that has been hailed as “better than ketchup.”  If you haven’t tried it yet, here’s your chance to give it a shot at the right price.

The recipe that I want to share with you this month is one that I tried to get my hands on before.  From the good folks at Batten Island Gourmet, we’ve got a simple recipe for Batten Island Candied Baked Beans.

4 Slices smoked bacon diced

1 Tbsp Olive Oil

1 medium onion, chopped

1 (15 ounce) cans of Boston Baked Beans

1 cup diced granny smith apples

1 Tbsp prepared mustard

¼ cup brown sugar

¼ cup cane syrup or molasses

1 (5 ounce) bottle of Batten Island Gourmet Sauce (heat degree optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

In a 12 inch iron skillet or large non-stick pan add Olive Oil and chopped bacon pieces.  Once the bacon starts to crisp add onion. Add the rest of your ingredients and simmer for 30 minutes so the flavors can marry.  ENJOY!

Keep any eye on the blog in the coming week or two because we’re expecting some more new products in (including the Naga Jolokia peppers mentioned above) and it will be posted there when they arrive.  By next month we should have a new announcement regarding our private label products as well that would make it more accessible for people that would like to get small amounts of sauce (less than 5 dozen bottles) done for special events or smaller promotions.

Until then, keep life spiced up!

Cheers,

Brian

December Newsletter

I hope that everyone is enjoying the holiday season and that you’re all ready for Christnas.  If you’re like me, you’ve got a few last minute gifts to take care of.  Here are a few ideas that are available now in time for Christmas.  First of all, our hottest gift of the year has been the Hot Sauce of the Month Club.  Available in 3, 6 and 12 month memberships.  We’ll send out two bottles of our gourmet hot sauce per month, starting at the beginning of January, and we’ll send you a personalized gift notification by email that you can provide in time for Christmas.  Just let us know who to put in the “To:” and “From:” fields and make sure that you give us their shipping address in the shipping address area of the order form.

Secondly, there’s the traditional gift certificate.  Through the online store, you can purchase gift certificates that are sent out right away via email.  That way they’ll get there on time, even at the last minute, and the recipient can use it to grab their old favorites or try something new!

Speaking of something new, we’ve recently added a few more products to our store lineup.  For the winter season, we decided to go Caribbean.  Check out the new Trinidad Caribbean Medium, Hot Pepper and Extra Hot Pepper sauces.  From the popular Walkerswood line of product, we’re also now carrying their Jonkanoo Caribbean sauce.  On top of that, we’ve now got mini bottles of the Toad Sweat line of Dessert Hot Sauces.  If you were ever curious about them, here’s a chance to check th! em out in a smaller size.  Last but not least, we’ve added Ass Kickin’ Ketchup for all of you that are into that particular condiment.

For our recipes this week, we found a couple of simple and versatile recipes using the new products from the line of Trinidad pepper sauces.

First there is their Caribbean Wing Sauce that’s also a great basting or marinating sauce for chicken, shrimp and fish.  Just mix together 5 oz of Trinidad pepper sauce, 1/4 stick of butter and 1/4 cup of orange juice over heat.  For chicken wings, simply toss cooked wings in the prepared sauce.  Use as desired for other recipes.

They also have a recipe for a Caribbean dipping sauce that simply consists of 5 oz of Trinidad pepper sauce and 5 oz of mayonnaise.  This is great for vegetables, wings, seafood, chicken fingers or as a sandwich spread.

Lastly, I should mention that you may want to check out the online store for our Boxing Week sale!  Starting on December 26th we’re going to have a general sale on all products (excluding the Hot Sauce of the Month Club) and keep your eyes open for some special savings on top of that.  We will be announcing all the details right before the sale starts in the Blog on the web site.

Wishing you and your families a Merry Christmas!

Cheers,

Brian

November Newsletter

Greetings everyone!

I hope that your Autumn has been enjoyable.  We’ve had a busy one here getting ready to bring you all kinds of great gourmet food to Heat Up the Holidays!  Our first exciting announcement is that we now have the Hot Raspberry Thunder back in stock.  It’s listed as the first item right on the main page of the online store.  I’ve had so many people ask me when it was going to be back that I wanted to make it easy to find.  Since I’ve listed it, I’ve had a few people discover it.  I can tell that you missed being able to get it because I’ve had single orders for as many as 6 bottles of it.  Don’t worry, I brought in a good quantity of it so we aren’t running low yet.

I always enjoy the Autumn season for the great harvest of fresh fruit and berries that are available.  While I was bringing in the Hot Raspberry Thunder, I brought in two other great raspberry sauces as well.  Check out the Roasted Raspberry Chipotle and the Fiesta Raspberry Jalapeno.  These are both great sauces that make some wonderful appetizers for holiday entertaining.  For a simple recipe this month, try one of the following:

Combine 1/4 cup of raspberry sauce with 8 oz of cream cheese to form a loaf and then top with 1-2 tablespoons of sauce.  This will make a great creamy spread for a holiday tray.  Or …

Mix 1/3 cup of raspberry sauce with an equal amount of balsamic vinegar and 1 teaspoon olive oil for a delightful raspberry salad dressing.

Also, by customer request, we’ve brought in Texas Red Lemon Pepper from the Austin Spice Co.  They’ve been winning awards as long as they’ve been around, and this is probably their best known product.  It’s a great rub for fish, chicken and a pork as well as a great all around seasoning.  Check it out, along with their Texas #202 Beef Seasoning Rub to add some extra flavor to your favorites.

There are a few more holiday updates for the store.  First of all, the Hot Sauce of Month Club is heating up to be a big gift item for us here so we made up a customized gift notification that we can send to you to pass long to anyone that you’re ordering this as a gift for.  This is available by request by anyone who places an order for a Hot Sauce of the Month Club membership as a gift.  We will customize it for the giver and receiver of the gift and email it out to you to print and send or email to the recipient.

Secondly, we’re getting into the holiday spirit with a special label just for this time of year.  Our “Stocking Stuffer Hot Sauce” will be available at the beginning of December and we’ll be giving away a free bottle to every order that totals $50 or more (before shipping and taxes) from December 1st until the 21st.  It will also be available for sale in the store.  It’s a great festive label with the words “to the hottest person I know” with a from line containing a blank that can be filled in with the giver’s name.  A good Sharpie permanent marker works well on the labels.

We’ve also recently updated our shipping module to now be able to calculate shipping to most European countries.  If you try to place an order and your country is not available, drop me a line and I’ll see if I can get it added.

Thanks for all of your business and support.  If you’ve got a recipe that you want to share, want to let us know about a product that we should have, or you just want to share a chili pepper story of your own please drop us a line.  We’d love to hear from you and we’ll include anything interesting, funny or tasty in an entry on our blog or in a future monthly email newsletter.

Cheers!
