Handling and Processing Fresh Chiles

I read a really neat article on the Fiery Foods Magazine web site today.  I’m including the link here for anyone that might want to check it out.  They talk about different preparation methods for eating, cooking and storing your own home grown peppers or the ones that you may buy for your own use.  There are some great tips and tricks, including how to roast your own peppers by several different methods.  They also include some great recipes for everything from home made hot sauces to some wonderful fresh salsas.  Check it out!

 Cheers,

July Newsletter

Ok, so some of you may have been wondering why it took me so long to get this out.  Or perhaps the thought has only crossed your mind now that I’ve mentioned it.  Well, I was invited to weddings the weekends of July 7th, 14th and 21st and the closest one was just under 1.5 hours away.  Then there’s the home renovations taking place, and everything else in day to day life on top of that.  So, I apologize for the lateness of this month’s newsletter.

We have had a lot of things going on with the store this month as well.  We have a bunch of new products in stock, including miniature bottles of the Ass Kickin’ hot sauces and mini gift packs of the Toad Sweat set and some of the fine products from Dave’s Gourmet.  Also from Dave’s, we got their new “Hot Sauce and Garden Spray.”  Apparently, people have found that spraying hot sauces on their gardens (flower and vegetable) that it can keep the local wildlife from eating your plants and vegetables.  To that end, they made an 8 oz spray bottle of hot sauce designe! d just for this purpose.  Of course, at the same time, it can also be used as a spicy salad spritzer or a mode for evenly distributing the hot sauce over a plate of food.  That sounds like a great way to warm up a cool summer dish to your liking!

We are working on sourcing out a few more new products for you, as per some of your requests.  I almost had source to bring in Thai peppers, but they’ve proven to be entirely unreliable so I’m back to the drawing board on that one.  Also, in the near future, look for Bad Byron’s Butt Rub to be added to our list of rubs and dry spices.  This is a great product that has much acclaim as one of the great rubs on the market.

We have set up something new on the web site to help purvey information more quickly to any of you that browse the web site now and again.  We now have a blog that is set up.  In the blog we are going to be posting the arrival of new products, recipes from time to time and other information that we think that you might find entertaining or useful.  Check it out and feel free to post comments to any articles to give us feedback or your own stories and recipes.  We may feature some of the information that we get in a future blog article to share with our hot sauce community.

I hope that the summer is going well for all of you!  Drop us a line if you’ve got an event that we could help you spice up or to book your hot sauce party for the fall.  Our weekends are already busy up to September 8th, so if you were thinking about it you might want to plan ahead for the date that you had in mind.

Cheers,

Brian

Friday the 13th!

I wish you all the best of luck on this superstitious day.  I just wanted to post up and let everyone know what’s going on in the near future for the store.

First off, we’ve got a ton of new and restock products on the way in.  If what you’re looking for is out of stock right now, never fear, that should be resolved very shortly.   I’ve had a lot of people ask about the Blair’s Death Rain Chips, and those are going to be in most likely by next Friday.  That order just got slightly held up, my apologies to those waiting.

I was planning to have a table at the market in Annapolis this Saturday, despite the fact that I’m going to be in New Brunswick for a wedding.  Unfortunately the person that was going to do this for me ran into a problem and they can’t make it.  I hate not being there for all of you who regularly meet me there, but I believe that the table should be there next week.  I’ve got to be in Halifax again for another wedding, but I’ve got two potential people lined up who should be able to bring the product out for me.  If there’s anything that you want to make sure is available there, drop me an email at info@frommildtowild.com or give me a call at 482-0900 and let me know.

Cheers!

Bone Suckin’ good recipes!

We’re well into the grilling season now, and BBQ sauce is in high demand.  I’ve been doing some reading in the various emails that I get from suppliers and industry newsletters and I found a few great tidbits from the folks that bring us all the products that comprise the Bone Suckin’ Sauce line.

First off, there was an article in the NY Daily News that reported that the Bone Suckin’ Yaki is great sauce for grilling smoked salmon.  They reported that:

1. Bone Suckin’ Yaki
Recipe: Grilled salmon in a crispy glaze of Bone Suckin’ Yaki. Brush this teriyaki-style sauce on your fish as it cooks. Before serving, add a drizzle of sauce.

I don’t know about you, but that sounds awesome to me!  And to add to that, the makers of Bone Suckin’ Sauce sent us this link to a great lineup of recipes using their products.  Check it out here.  If that doesn’t make you hungry, then nothing will!

If you’ve got any great grilling recipes to share this summer, send it along as a comment in the blog, or give us an email at info@frommildtowild.com.

Cheers,

Brian
