Some Serious Heat!

Hey everyone -

I just got some new stuff, so I wanted to share with you what it is.  First off, we’ve expanded our collection of Blair’s products with the addition of Sudden Death.  This is a great high heat sauce that features some interesting ingredients such as Siberian Ginseng and clover honey.

Also, from the Original Juan line, we’ve added the Pain 100% hot sauce.  On top of a great name, it’s their usual high quality and this one has quite a kick to it as far as heat goes.

We also brought in the new line of extremely high heat products from Ashley Foods who are known for the Mad Dog line of products.  These include four different labels with pop art designs that are really catchy in interesting bottles that were imported especially for this run of sauces.  The names are pretty catchy too – 22 Midnight Special, 38 Special, 44 Magnum and 357.  Respectively they are 2 million, 3 million, 4 million and 5 million scovilles.  Dave Ashley has all of these heat levels verified using HPLC, so you’re getting the real deal with these ones.  Please be very careful with these sauces!  I got one tiny drop of the 357 (5 million scovilles) on my hand and I licked it off.  Suffice it to say, I was gargling milk for a few minutes – use as an additive only, do NOT directly consume!  If you’re interested in checking these out, they can all be found here.

For anyone interested in referencing the heat levels, there’s a great article on Scovilles in Wikipedia.

That’s all for today!  Take care and enjoy your long weekend.  If you’re down in the Digby area, make sure to drop in and see us at our vendor’s tent at the Wharf Rat Rally!  We’ll be set up somewhere around the marina near the center of the action.

Cheers,

Brian

August Newsletter

Greetings everyone -

I hope that the summer is finding you well.  It’s been a busy summer with the shop, and some of the frequent visitors to the site may have noticed that the store was “closed” for a week and a half in early August.  I was away and got married on the break, and now we’re back and ready to bring the sizzle to the kitchen and the grill.

We’re excited about the upcoming Wharf Rat Rally, the motorcycle rally in Digby, NS.  It is on the long weekend at the beginning of September, taking place from August 31st until September 2nd.  You can find out more information about the rally at www.wharfratrally.com, and you’ll find us there in the middle of it all at the marina as a vendor.  We’ve put together a special sauce just for the event with our new Digby Biker Burnout label.  Only 300 of these labels was printed, and they are all serial numbered.  This is going to make for a great collectible for you hot sauce and motorcycle fans.  I don’t expect that they are going to last long with an expected 40,000 people to be attending the rally, so if you want one beforehand make sure that you order it now!

We’ve also recently added the Ring of Fire sauces from Mike and Diane’s.  These are simply amazing sauces that taste as fresh as the ingredients that they use.  I’m a big fan of the Xtra Hot myself, where the combination of fresh ingredients and habanero is fronted by a pepper taste that is a wonderful combination.

We’ve also brought in new salsa and cheese dip from Crazy Jerry, Bad Byron’s Butt Rub - the be all and end all of rubs, Endorphin Rush, and many more!  So, it’s been a busy summer.  If you’re around Annapolis Royal this Saturday, stop in and see us at the Farmer’s Market in the morning.  Otherwise, give us a call and drop in to see the showroom.

We’re getting geared up for Autumn where there’s still lots of great grilling weather left.  Keep an eye on our blog to see what else might pop up for special events, recipes, new products and interesting information.  And drop us a line today if you’d like to host your own hot sauce party.

Cheers,

Brian

Some entertainment

I was surfing around the internet for a few minutes this morning, and I came across this gem of a video clip.  It seems that some kid thought that it would be a good idea to eat a habanero pepper just because his friend had a video camera.  Well, the results were quite humorous (that kid can make quite the face!).  Check out the video here.

I’m working on information the newsletter for the month of August and I’ve got some new products in the store to announce along with that, so keep your eyes open for that to come out.  Drop me an email at info@frommildtowild.com if you’d like to be included on our mailing list.  It’s a once a month thing that provides information about new products, specials, events and recipes.

 Cheers,

Brian

Something kind of funny

I just thought that I’d share this because some of you might find it amusing.  I was working on trying to find a source for some of the dried chilies that have been requested (specifically thai peppers) so I posted a buying lead on a web site or two.  Since then I’ve been inundated with emails from suppliers around the globe (Vietnam, Pakistan, Egypt, China, Mauritius, Turkey and the list goes on).  I am not looking for huge quantities, just enough to keep some stock in the store for my customers.  I usually buy in case quantities from suppliers and manufacturers in Canada and the US.  They are trying to sell me 40 foot containers of product!  I even had one gentleman CALL ME from INDIA to try and sell me product.  This is where I realized that maybe I had goofed up a little.

I’ve since gone back and deleted the buying leads, but my profile still resides on those sites where it was posted.  I think that I may need to mask or delete that too, because the offers to sell me product are still pouring in (I’m getting about 4-10 an hour for last day and a half).

All in all it really is quite humorous, just a little time consuming to sift through all the email.  I’ve basically spammed myself I guess.

So, how is everyone else’s day going?

Cheers,

Brian
